Welcome to A Migraine Life! My name is Kanicia and I have had migraines most of my life. My migraines began after an accident at school. I spent my adolescence battling these terrible headaches that neither myself nor my parents knew how to handle. I remember coming home from school and just going to sleep in the basement, because that was the darkest place in our house. My parents spent years taking me to different doctors and specialists to find the cause of my mysterious headaches. It took several years of doctor visits and varying opinions from “she’s depressed” to “she wants more attention” before I was finally diagnosed as a migrainer. Like so many other migrainers, I have since tried several medications and therapies to find solutions to my headaches.
The reason I created this website is to help others like yourself, who have been looking for ways to manage their headaches and with persistence to eliminate them. To do this, I will share my personal experiences with you and what I have discovered over the years through my own “trial and error.”
Please feel free to get involved with the site. I love to hear from others and I believe that by sharing our stories we can build a community that gives support and provide answers for this complicated life that we live- A Migraine Life.
A little more about me…
I’m in my 30s now and have gone through many stages with my migraines, from having them only once a month to becoming a chronic migrainer with headaches almost every day. I’ve tried the traditional western medicine treatments with varying results and after a scary hospital incident from the side effects of one medication, I decided that the traditional route was not worth risking my life.
Since that incident, I have invested my time and energies on finding out more about this ‘mysterious’ condition, know as migraine. I’ve asked questions, read papers and listened to experts. I’ve also experimented with many different therapies and have managed to improve my health drastically.
I have gone from chronic daily headache with 10-15 migraines per month, to now only having migraines once every month or two months. While I am not cured of my migraines, I feel that the results that I have seen are certainly worth sharing! The therapies that I currently use have also significantly reduced the disability and pain that I have when I do have a migraine. Yay!
I hope that you too can benefit from my journey. If you ever need any feedback or support on your journey to managing your migraine, please feel free to reach out to me.
